I don´t mean to offend anyone, but most (if not all) of the Irish people that I know are incredibly gifted in the liberal use of profanities. I was with Irish clients (husband and wife) looking at property for sale on the Costa Blanca last week, and within minutes of meeting me, they were swearing away. By the end of the day, I felt I knew them well enough to ask them why this trait was so prevalent amongst the Irish people in Spain that I had come across. After much laughter, they explained that, to them, the use of 1 or 2 expletive words were just part of everyday language, and that it was fairly commonplace amongst their friends and colleagues. Maybe it´s my reserved ´Englishness´ that made me sit up and notice, although with a name like Sean, I was very tempted to join in. Any excuse! Part of the roof at the Molivent college collapsed yesterday, forcing the suspension of classes. The events occurred before 09:00, before the classes had started. As a result, numerous attendees where sent home and the potential for injury was kept to a minimum. After an initial inspection by the municipal technical services, it was decided that classes would be suspended as a precautionary measure until next Monday. Molivent public school was opened in 1969 and is one of the oldest in the educational infrastructure in Guardamar. Some parents are blaming the age of the building as the cause of the incident, commenting that, “it could have been more serious if it had happened during a class.” Some parents also complained that the administrators of the school are aware of the decay of the building, but are not prepared to invest in repair or maintenance work. According to the mayor, Marylène Albentosa, the most probable cause is the effects of a bout of recent rains during Easter week. Albentosa understood “the concerns of parents for the damage caused”, but above all, stated that there were no injuries caused by the unfortunate incident as it occurred outside school hours. The Mayor contined to say that both the technical services and education representatives of the council will return to school to resume the report and see what future steps need to be taken to repair the damaged facilities. According to the mayor, the options being considered are “the installation of pupils in classes in temporary facilities, the famous pre-fabricated classrooms, in order to complete the remaining two months of school year”. via This is Torrevieja - School roof collapses in Guardamar . The Alicante Prosecutor has requested a sentence of fifteen years in prison for a man accused of allegedly assaulting his partner in the presence of their 3 year old son. The incident occurred in February 2006, in the Los Balcones urbanization in Torrevieja, where the accused, MT, pulled his partner out of the bedroom in the presence of the son and proceeded to push and hit her repeatedly. According to the prosecutor, the defendant, after assaulting his partner, kept them all imprisoned in their home for 3 weeks, so as to prevent the woman seeking assistance. Summer has arrived, and I´m loving living in Spain again. Isn´t it amazing how we are so easily influenced by the climate. We´ve just had the worst winter in Spain for 30 years, and it looks like Spring has completely passed us by. I remember this from previous years here on the Costa del Sol – lousy winter, but as soon as easter has come and gone, summer starts. Today, it´s 21 degrees, clear blue skies – perfect. It´s that lovely quiet time for all residents of the Costa del Sol – all the Spaniards who traditionally holiday in Marbella during the easter vacation have since gone home, and we now have a lovely spell of 8-10 weeks where the weather on the Costa del Sol is usually glorious, and the mass tourism is yet to beset us. I woudn´t want tot anywhere else. (Just wish I had a home!) Related Posts 20% Fewer Brits Coming to Spain Easyjet - my love affair is over Should you sell your Property in Spain?
